Direct Support Professional
OBJECTIVE: Provide supervision, support and training to people with differing abilities served by SARAH, Inc. Develop and implement activities that are person-centered and promote positive outcomes. Provide the environment and supports necessary to promote appropriate social skills and positive behaviors that will enhance skills, enrich lives, and foster community presence & participation.
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- knowledge of learning and behavioral processes helpful
- Must be over 21 and possess a valid Connecticut driver’s license with an acceptable driving history as defined by SARAH, Inc.’s policy.
HOURS OF DUTY: Non-exempt Monday 9:00am - 6:00pm, Tuesday-Friday 8:45am - 4:30pm
STAFF ASSIGNED: None
- Ensure the health, safety and well-being of people served by SARAH, Inc. in accordance with the individual service plan and in compliance with agency policies and procedures.
- Provide supervision, guidance and instruction to individuals served by SARAH, Inc. in assigned day service setting(s). This can include community based work settings. Support services can include, but are not necessarily limited to: direct supervision, personal care, dispensing medication; behavioral interventions; attending team meetings, etc.
- Provide transportation for assigned service participants in accordance with SARAH, Inc. safe-driving policies and practices.
- Develop and implement activities that are person-centered and promote positive outcomes.
- Maintain medical, social and programmatic files by recording each person’s progress and documenting other required information. This includes, but is not limited to: service goals, attendance records, behavioral data, progress notes, quarterly and annual reports, and other documentation as required or needed.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with service participants, families, co-workers and other community representatives.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of person-centered, outcome-based services for people with differing abilities
- Knowledge of company policies and procedures and applicable regulatory standards
- Knowledge of community resources
- Skill in working with people with differing abilities
- Skill in operating standard office equipment, computer and various software packages.
- Skill in implementing programs & activities as outlined in the individual support plan
- Skill in communicating effectively in a courteous and professional manner
- Skill in writing clearly and concisely to maintain accurate records
- Ability to attend to the physical and personal needs of adults with differing abilities
- Ability to demonstrate good communication and interpersonal skills necessary to provide guidance and instruction to adults with significant challenges;
- Ability to work successfully, both independently and in a team environment
- Ability to problem-solve effectively
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to use adaptive and other equipment
- Ability to maintain a patient and positive attitude
- Ability to drive and travel to varying locations as needed
